About Coco
Coco, Pixar's 19th feature, was directed by Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3), co-directed by Adrian Molina and produced by Darla K. Anderson. Unkrich pitched the idea in 2010, and the team made research trips to Mexico to get the Día de los Muertos details right. The film follows Miguel, a 12-year-old who dreams of being a musician, into the Land of the Dead on Día de los Muertos, where he meets Héctor and learns the truth about his family. It premiered in Mexico in October 2017, passing The Avengers to become the highest-grossing film ever there (in pesos), and opened in the US that November. It won two Oscars: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Remember Me.”
